Foreword

The Translation Bureau, whose mandate is to standardize and disseminate terminology within the federal public service, and Parks Canada are proud to present the Avalanche Bulletin Vocabulary.

Avalanches are one of the most deadly natural hazards in Canada. It is therefore essential that mountain travellers, for their personal safety, have access to current, reliable and accurate information throughout the winter months.

Avalanche bulletins provide the source for this type of information. This publication will therefore prove to be an indispensable reference tool for both forecasters and translators responsible for producing bulletins in the country's two official languages.
