Terminology Bulletin 266
This is the final version of the Law of Contracts and Law of Torts Glossary (Common Law), which includes the contents of the first fascicle. This publication is part of a project undertaken in 1981 by the National Program for the Integration of Both Official Languages in the Administration of Justice to standardize the French terminology of the common-law vocabulary.
The Standardization Committee decided to examine the law of contracts in conjunction with the law of torts since both these fields often share the same terms (e.g., duty, obligation, liability, damages) even though these terms do not necessarily designate the same concepts. This Glossary contains 1,264 English terms, the French equivalents of which have been standardized.
